Some people think “If you’ve seen one car, you’ve seen them all.” However, nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, there are a lot of cars that have been and stayed concepts and have likely never reached your eyes. Even as a car enthusiast, you’re probably not up to date on all concept cars made within the last decade.
From futuristic designs and even features that hint to the past, here’s a list of the coolest concept cars you’ve likely never seen before. To think some people feel like there’s nothing they haven’t seen in a car. What a concept.
15. Aston Martin AMV10:
While the Vanquish concept has come a long way since its AMV8 origins, this concept car designed by Sabino Design still impresses. The car was in part inspired by the Jaguar XJ 220 which explains the layout(one that features a central engine) which is nothing like the AMV 8. This car features a V10 engine(with 700 hp) which had never been used by Aston before.
The year 2013 marked a century of Aston Martin and so the Vanquish was born. The recent 2015 Vanquish(AMV12) is equipped with an AM29 V12 engine, the most powerful GT production engine ever used by Aston Martin. The 658 hp car that reaches 201 mph and can go fro zero to sixty in 3.6 seconds is described as a “Super Grand Tourer.”
14. Maserati Birdcage 75th:
The Maserati Birdcage 75th, a concept car created and designed by a Pininfarina design team, was first introduced at the 2005 Geneva Auto Show. It was named to honor both the classic Maserati Birdcages of the 1960s and Pininfarina’s 75th anniversary. The Birdcage 75th shares elements with the Maserati MC12 GT1 race car like the engine, for instance.
It’s powered by the Ferrari/Maserati F140 V12 engine which has been customized for the Birdcage and produces around 700 horsepower. The six-month production and design process of the car was documented and created into the film “Sleek Dreams.” If brought to reality, the driver would have visibility problems and a bit of a tough time getting in as the car has no doors. Instead, the bubble canopy can be raised for entrance.
13. Corvette Stingray Concept:
If you remember Sideswipe from Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, then you know this is what the character transformed into. The Corvette Stingray Concept was built to celebrate 50 years of the Stingray model. Some features nod to the original car(like the split rear window), but it also has unique touches like scissor-style doors, rear view camera with night vision and a hybrid engine.
The car debuted at the 2009 Chicago Auto Show and in 2013, it was announced the concept car would become a reality with the production of the 2014 Corvette Stingray. Unfortunately, some of the concept’s features didn’t make the grade and the 2014 Corvette Stingray is missing the scissor-opening doors and split rear window among other details.
