Your Favorite Crossover??
Culled from the hundreds of variations on sale, here are the ten best crossover SUVs available for under $30,000. They include subcompact, compact, and midsize models. Each is equipped with all-wheel drive and presented in the most desirable trim level available within our price cap.
Following are the top 10 Crossovers under $30,000 according to us:
10. Subaru Outback 2.5i Premium:
In line with Subaru’s design ethos of maximum space with minimal bulk, this crossover looks a lot like a midsize station wagon with a jacked-up suspension. In most ways it is a Subaru Legacy sedan with elevated ground clearance and some SUV-themed body panels. But it’s also an overachiever, featuring as much usable passenger room for five and as much usable cargo space as any number of taller, bulkier crossovers.
Our target here is the 2.5i Premium, the middle-level model in the line identified by their 175-horsepower 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. It links to a continuously variable transmission that shifts more like a conventional automatic than most of its ilk. Acceleration is adequate.
9. Subaru Forester 2.5i Premium:
Shaped much like a tall-roof compact station wagon, this isn’t the most stylish crossover. And with a cabin emphasizing roomy function over frivolous fashion, it isn’t the most luxurious. But Forester is a multi-talented standout where it counts: space efficiency, ride and seat comfort, and a standard all-wheel-drive system with impressive capabilities.
The “2.5i” badge identifies Foresters with Subaru’s 2.5-liter engine with four horizontally opposed cylinders. It delivers a sufficient, though hardly pulse-pounding 170 horsepower, but rates 25 mpg city-highway combined with the six-speed manual transmission and 27 with the continuously variable (automatic) transmission.
