Which one would you buy??
Few cars bring more smiles per mile than convertibles, and as summer nears, it’s that time of year again. For the most part, the cars — all in their base trims — fall below $30,000, and many even under $25,000 (and some even lower still). While topless cars were once seen as premium members of automotive society, the class is becoming increasingly affordable, allowing more and more people the opportunity to soak up some rays while behind the wheel. Here are nine convertible that offer a fine balance of fun, style, performance, and most importantly, value.
9. Smart ForTwo:
The quirky and minuscule Smart ForTwo has developed a sort of cultish following and is favored in cities as it can be parked or maneuvered just about anywhere. While it’s not the most practical of beasts, the removable roof certainly adds to the Weeee! factor, and at $17,930, it’s among the most affordable convertibles on the market. Only 0.5 percent of Edmunds’ respondents chose the Smart as the best bargain convertible out of the lot.
8. Fiat 500C Abarth:
Like the Smart, Edmunds‘ survey takers weren’t too impressed by the small-footprint ragtop models. The same rate — 0.5 percent — chose the Fiat 500C Abarth Cabrio as the best, despite its peppy 1.4 liter turbo inline-four that begs to be riled up and whipped around. And the $26,095 sticker price is decidedly expensive for such a small vehicle, hence explaining why more people weren’t drawn to it.
